The Junior Accountant is responsible for effectively accounting for and administering investment portfolios in compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies and documented strategies and guidelines. They provide support to the Accounts department by performing various accounting tasks, including but not limited to, recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recording and Reconciliation
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts on a monthly basis.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records and accounts.
- Record financial transactions in the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records for assets, liabilities, income, and expenses.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including invoice processing and payment collection.
- Daily reconciliation of local bank accounts – differentiating funds between individual clients and MCFLTD.
- Transfer of any discrepancies within accounts monthly.
- Accounting for all transactions on credit card statements and filing all relevant supporting documents.
- Tracking of all un-deposited/un-cleared cheques.
- Data entry on Quickbooks for all transactions.
- Filing of all transactions related to all bank accounts.
- Balancing the overseas broker accounts and accounting for MCFLTD and client funds separately.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to ensure the timely and accurate financial reporting, including Income Statements, Balance sheets, Cashflows, Fundings, Forecast, and Financial Metrics.
- Collaborate with the Accountant and Chief Financial Officer to meet reporting deadlines and ensure an effective monthly accounting cycle.
- Support research activities to gather data and prepare reports as required to support decision-making.
- Partner with the Accountant to improve the company’s financial management systems, internal financial controls, and processes to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and anomalies.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Generate financial reports and schedules for management and stakeholders as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Financial Operations and Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to the finance department, including filing, data entry, and correspondence management.
- Handling of administrative, procedural and accounting aspects of the financial operations.
- Filing of documents to Companies Registry and Ministry of Finance
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities as assigned and in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
- Assist with special projects and ad-hoc assignments as assigned by senior accounting staff.
- Preparation of cheque payment vouchers and filing with relevant supporting documents.
- Liaise with tenants to ensure that monthly bills are split in accordance with agreed terms and preparation of invoices for shared expenses.
- Facilitate online transfer of funds when applicable.
- Payment and filing of Monthly Payroll as directed by the accountant and/or CFO.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Tracking of all cash flows to ensure that all accounts have sufficient funds and all funds are split between client accounts and MCFLTD main account.
- Collaborate with department managers to gather budget inputs to track budget performance as required.
- Participate in budget variance analysis and provide explanations for variances.
Audit Support
- Support the external audit process by providing audit schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.
- Assist in addressing audit findings and implementing recommendations for improvement.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
- Maintain proper documentation and records retention in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Ensure compliance with company policies and any applicable regulatory requirements
- Participate in scheduled staff training and retreats
- Actively participate in any activities that support the environment, social, health, safety and quality management goals of the organisation.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Experience & Training
- Minimum five (5) years of work experience within the area of accounting.
- Accounting-related training leading up to an ACCA designation.
- Past Audit Experience will be an asset.
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and budgeting is advantageous.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Investments or a related field is required.
- Candidates with a relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) are preferred.
Knowledge
- Sound knowledge accounting principles and concepts.
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards and regulations (e.g., IFRS, SEC regulations).
- Knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Understanding of budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Awareness of audit procedures and internal controls.
- Knowledge in investment accounting will be an asset.
- Knowledge about Murphy Clarke Financial organisational culture and work environment will be an asset.
